Whatman GD/X syringe filters are specifically designed for viscous or highly particulate samples that are difficult to filter using standard syringe filters. Their integrated glass microfiber prefilter stack allows them to handle samples with high solids content, making them ideal for environmental, food, and analytical laboratory sample preparation.

GD/X filters contain a multilayer glass fiber prefilter system (GMF and GF/F) positioned before the PVDF membrane. This design removes large particles first, preventing premature membrane clogging and allowing the filter to process 3–7 times more sample volume compared with conventional syringe filters without prefilters.

The PVDF membrane offers excellent chemical compatibility with many aqueous and organic solvents and has low protein binding, making it suitable for HPLC sample preparation and other analytical workflows. It also produces low extractables, helping maintain sample purity during filtration.

The 25 mm GD/X filter format is designed for sample volumes typically greater than 10 mL. Its larger filtration area and built-in prefilter allow it to efficiently handle larger sample loads and particulate-rich solutions compared with smaller syringe filter formats.
